excerpt from today's AGONIZING TRUTH: More reactions over Herndon's Tell All book

THE AGONIZING TRUTH
Agony, Texas (cir 312 339!)
Jackson Tuck Editor

Today, I went into the streets of Agony... to get down and dirty over the real reactions of Agonites. As the only true 'newsman' in all of Vinegaroon County, it is my burden to observe, and report: The Agonizing Truth.

Now that I have finished my college career, I feel the responsibility that my Grandfather, former circuit court Judge for the Agony Basin District, the honorable Clayton Onyx, has left me in bequeathing this historic newspaper into my young hands.

The divided town I witnessed today reminded me not of the town I grew up in, or the place where I knew people to be of solid stock, people whose names are familiar, mostly because they never change... Not, the important ones, anyhow.

Now, our story is about to come out.  This writer you all spoke with, and had his wife over for tea, and poker, this man-with-no-first-name, evidently, this S. Bond Herndon has torn what little peace we have known away like a Twister, sweeping down off the Llano Estacado.
.
My own aunt was killed by one of those, much to all our regret.  I have heard that Herndon has even made mention of that tender subject, and rekindled certain feelings, perhaps best left alone.

Not all residents are angry at Mr. Herndon.  Many are excited about anything that tells people outside 'The Basin' about their existence...

"It's kinna nice to think folks off somewhere's else might be thinking about us here..." Tate Munchassenberger told the AT. "Mostly we figger no body really cares..."

Some Agonites predict this book with ruin the town!
Others I spoke with seem to have taken a more philosophical approach to the news that A Week in Agony...Texas is about to cause storms of controversy once readers across the nation realize that one of the main characters in his expose' goes by the name JESUS, which is true, everyone in town knows Jesus and understands that he out-right refuses to be addressed as 'Hey-Zues'.

What any Agonite with some leather to snap their heads against knows, is that Herndon is about to tell the world what our town, our little nothing-of-a-town, once did to the very same, above mentioned, Jesus... Jesus Matesse DeSoto Solo Cabrerra, to put the record straight.

Travis Drylander age 12
This is not the first time such events have spilled out of Agony. The time Herndon's book is supposed to be set within is the very week Travis Drylander went insane and started broadcasting to the heavens the darkest of secrets about everybody who had a piece of Agony; most have long gone...

"The Families Herndon Exposes in his book are not ready to have such matters open for public consumption". Lawyer for (as he terms it) THE AGONY CONSORTIUM J. Dagwood Holmgren told the AT. He is also the attorney responsible for filing a record number of lawsuits aimed at stopping publication of, as Holmgren puts it: "What can only end up being an offensive rag of a book, filled with blasphemies that only the 'Godless' would permit!"

Books signed in Canton, Tx.
Many Agonites have become fans of S. Bond Herndon's writing.  His most recent novel, "Tormenta", set on Galveston Island as hurricane Rita bore down, was a tour-de-force of Southern Gothic storytelling, and historical drama.  Yes, I read it, and was shocked to note that such a writer would switch his genres.  Risky, to take the chance that his readers would follow his tall tales about a town like Agony.

As our town awaits to hear the date for release, some are awaiting the 'pre-order' phase to make their internet purchases, orders for signed copies.  Mr. Herndon will also be ON THE MOUNTAIN (Living, evidently, in a fake Western Town: Flathat) in Canton, Texas during The First Monday of The Month for both the November and December Markets (It is estimated that up to 500k flow through that pretty little place on an average Market Day).  He will be signing books and doing readings, and keeping an eye out for Mulligans...

Next issue of THE AGONIZING TRUTH:

What, exactly, do the Mulligans want kept out of Herndon's new book?  Why is Travis Drylander still missing?

Calling ALL STARVING ARTISTS: Through a little premiere art by FEATHERMAYE

It matters not what your art is.  If you paint, prepare yourself for both subject matter, and sales, often on the piece you are standing there working on.  If you sculpt, you'll find excellent company to talk about your experiences, and pick the mind of some WORLD CLASS sculptors.

Maybe you sing, play the guitar, or the xylophone, there's a spot of MOUNTAIN up here for you too.  We don't care if you design dresses, hats or Windmills for your artistic expression.  We only know that you secretly dream of a place where folks like us can come, relax, find the rhythm of the place, its pulse, and let it throb up your frame as you let your art flow.

Street performers, Wild West re-enactments, shops with stuff folks have found with your name on it...c'mon all you pickers, this is your stuff and the folks up here are just holding on to it for you.

Gotta book you want to promote?  Me too, and some painting I want to do, and, and... THE MOUNTAIN sees its fare share of the estimated 500k that can come through the town of CANTON TEXAS during First Monday of the Month, when this sleepy little town turns into the largest swap-meet, flea market, trade station (as it was during the early days of TEXAS settlement).

The market days activity and commerce swings full all day Thursday through Saturday and half a day on Sunday.  At night, hundreds of thousands of travelers look toward THE MOUNTAIN, to continue shopping for those 'rare finds' or that art that they need for... or just to listen to some tunes, or laugh at the performers, maybe even cry with them too.

They eat in numerous venues and see more in an evening on this magical little spot of ground that has risen to legendary status.  You'll see buildings that look like the Lost Boys built them, or a entire village of kid's tree forts, or club houses, only they are Bed and Breakfasts, shops, galleries and a virtual DREAM WORLD for any good ole American Picker...

Influenced by 'Escher', Feathermaye
keeps her eye ready for the
unusual
I'll just shut up and let Feathermaye TELL you, in her own way, with her own eyes--tricky, eh?  Ladies and gentlemen, the ART of MY WIFE, THE FABULOUS FEATHERMAYE: compositions from the upper hill...

Ed "Pappy" Picket World Class Sculptor, see link in text above
The Memorial Statue still needs help with funding for
the cast.  Dig deep, everybody...this is a worthy effort.

We saw composition everywhere... "I'm Just Captivated by the juxtaposition of it all: The drab bordered by color, the old next door to the new." feathermaye

Folks, my neck was hurting from all the looking back and forth, as we crept along in Nanny Fru-Fru's 'mountain rigged' golf cart with "Who Dat" on the side.

If you don't feel like a kid again as soon as you set foot here, turn around, go back, this is not for you.  But don't be surprised to feel this place as it puts an arm around you, points to a currently available little spot of MOUNTAIN, and starts tickling the kid in you again.  C'mon, you know you want to.  I'm currently working on getting my own Hippie Feet back in shape.

As always, you can follow this blog by clicking on the right buttons to your right...also you can find us on facebook, thank you very much.  Also, if you'd be so sweet, give this one a Tweet!   I'd be remiss not to mention that feathermaye now has me stumbling as well...

From the Balcony: Photo Blog 'How THE MOUNTAIN comes to life'

Gun fights during the day are attention get-ers to shoppers below.

Then, evening descends over the hill...

RECORD LAWSUIT BACKLOG over S. Bond Herndon's Tell All book

THE AGONIZING TRUTH Agony, Texas (cir. 316)
October 6, 2011
Jackson Tuck, Editor

Agony Annex, closed after Ethel Noon
swooned (with all the paperwork)
The Vinegaroon county clerk office, Agony Annex, was over run when more than sixty-four suits were filed today, mostly aimed at author S. Bond Herndon to stop publication of his new tell-all book, supposedly about life, here in Agony.

"Well just bury him in paperwork!" The lawyer for the group, J. Dagwood Holmgren told the AT.  "He'll have to deal with us before we let him see daylight..."

Meanwhile, the notorious Mulligan Gang is still incensed that they have yet to find a way to thwart Herndon's plans.

Last known photo of H.D. Mulligan (not sure which)
He was born with bad twitches, and no prison or
state photos have been made in focus
"Bab-ba-lu, baby, we gonna do some tap-dancin', we find this here feller..." Harley Davidson Mulligan told the AT over the phone from Huntsville Penitentiary (where he is currently due for parole in 2023).

Mr. Herndon's book seems to have opened a can of worms that leads back to several of the Mulligans, dating back to 1968, when our town held its, quite memorable, centennial celebration.  As you know, it got a little out-of-hand, however, it is also the time when Charles Speck III (Our town Doc) came to town.  That is the story Herndon followed to reveal not only the Mulligan's nefarious activities, but quite a few other secrets, some so dark, for their time, that they left indelible impressions on our town...impressions we can not shake away from our dreams.

We think something like this happened
with JJ and his Uncle No-Nose Mulligan
Further complicating the potential for disaster, rumor now has it that JJ (Jessie James) Mulligan has made a play for power over the family interests, which, remarkably, still include their 'Salvage Yard' and a lot of barren desert hiding who-knows-what?

"Them boys are bad news..." Said Cletus (Our Town Constable).  "They use look-outs, and stuff like that.  They real organized, n'all."

Cletus, a pretty good scout himself
As you know, it is Cletus' turn to work as our constable, unfortunately, it has happened at a time when we desperately need lawmen with True Grit, not those who must eat their grits before giving chase when chase is due.

"Clete, hell, he's a good hand, in the saddle.  Good long-range spotter, if he ain't drinking much..." Said one associate of the man-now-on-the-hot-seat.  "But, he ain't gonna be no good tangling with Mulligans.  These here Mulligan's ain't his daddy's Mulligans, if you know what I mean.

As I close this article, I am sad to report that Ethel Noon has reported that it may take longer than expected to file all the new paperwork. Her normal workload of court filings, generally relegated to land and livestock purchases and oil rights.

"My lawd, I've never felt so much hate, from so many!" Ethel said, just before she swooned again and was taken to Dr. Speck's for observation.

The lawsuits may well take longer to reach the ear of the court than it will take Herndon's publisher Truesource (Imagine House Imprint) to get "A Week in Agony...Texas" on the shelves.

Next time in: THE AGONIZING TRUTH
Just what did Herndon find out when he spent all that time visiting with Dr. Speck?  And, where has the original tell-all mouthpiece 'Travis Drylander' run off to? Those questions and more in the next issue.

SHOOT OUT ON THE MOUNTAIN!: Rangers push back marauding Mulligans!

Here's an excerpt from the paper about the latest trick the Mulligans have tried to pull...

THE FLATHAT TIMES

October 1, 2011 Flathat Texas (near Canton) A West Texas gang made a foiled attempt to confront Novelist S. Bond Herndon, and his wife: THE FABULOUS FEATHERMAYE.  Town of Flathat, Texas Law enforcement Rangers were aware of the potential for a confrontational appearance by the thugs from the same town that Herndon has profiled in his new TELL-ALL book about life in an insignificant town stuck in the middle of no where...

"Hell fire...they come wobbling up here like they didn't have any sense..." Ranger Hix Taylor told this reporter. "We was gonna just talk to the idiots fellers and urge them to move on...you know...peaceful-like."

"Then one of 'em jumped ole Tom..." (note here that the Ranger was chuckling as he said this) Hix continued: "Shoot, that was a mistake."

As the confrontation escalated, the Herndon's, and their dog, were escorted to Nanny Fru-Fru's, were they had a nice bowl of gumbo, according to the story teller "Phillis makes a mean rue..." He was still chewing while answering questions. "We didn't hear about all the fuss till it was over.  Shouldn't mess with the Rangers..." Herndon grinned then and added: "And don't mess with TEXAS!"

Let me close this one by adding that we're all just fine.  These guys are really just too dumb to really ever get in our faces about it.  Oleandra told us that all they want to do is hog-tie us up until we agree to tear up the pages we've written.  I haven't have to heart to mention I wrote it on a computer.

We'll keep our heads down against flying lead!

More blogs to come!  Mulligans be damned!

ON THE MOUNTAIN: Sugar Britches and Ms. Lilly's Closet...

Evening crowds filling THE MOUNTAIN
(taken from SUGAR BRITCHES' balcony)
As the anticipation closed around us, THE MOUNTAIN came to life.  All the little spots that Feathermaye and I  had explored and wondered about filled with goods, art of all sorts, unique finds, and a lot of genuinely happy people, ready to do business, or just have a good time.  Money, really doesn't matter to most of these folks; they are not driven by profit; it is a by-product of their collective effort, as well as the help they give each other.

Laurie Zieber owns SUGAR BRITCHES
Come twirl your way through
Ms Lilly's Closet
I've previously told you about the "Amazzzing Mzz Z" (Laurie Zieber), a force of nature and a fine example of the best of Southern Womanhood, with both the gentile manners one might expect, yet in clear possession of a mind so open to the whys and wherefores of the world around her--by that, I mean the people she loves to meet and share her vision with (Just about everyone, until proven otherwise) regardless of the obvious differences an individual may come with, Laurie is always ready to listen, and share...and TWIRL.

Ah, but Mzz Z is also an artist with, like so many here, a clear vision that encompasses many mediums.  Sugar Britches is the building that first drew her to THE MOUNTAIN.  "Place just spoke to me..." She said, as Feathermaye and I stood in the empty lanes of 'Lazy Daze Junction' and 'Purple Peacock (ave?)'.

The building has housed a few other business dreams and visions.  They come and go here on THE MOUNTAIN.  Laurie, just like all the others who have stepped onto the face of this little East Texas hill, felt the thrill of the youngster she last was, just before becoming an adult becomes so important, and life in the Dallas suburbs absorbs all the child away while puberty, and society take away the wonder of life, replacing it with routine, hard work (usually for someone else) and finally, pushes dreams like Laurie's from the back burner to the back of the closet and out of sight.

As adults we realize that all our childhood dreams were always missing something: the ability to THINK like an adult, while experiencing the magic a child keeps as they open themselves to the world around them.  Their early experiences remain... A primordial call, so strong that it keeps a gnawing seed of desperate want to remind us all: that we left something dear, something precious behind us, someplace back with the child we once were.

I've heard a lot of tales about this hill: (Indian burial ground, right over a few intersecting magnetic ley-lines, and filled with legends, the flavor of the Old Wild West, built by the Lost Boys (No tape measure or level needed here!) and guided by the dreams of people who come to find what they left behind... Long ago.

If you are one of the folks who feel called by something entirely irresistible when your first set foot here, take your time.  Talk to all of us, you'll find you are looking, virtually, at a mirror of what's going on inside your heart.    Resist the need to pull back.  We understand, we smile, nod, and enjoy seeing another kid-at-heart overwhelming the facades that you've learned to hide your child away within, safely protected.

Most up here understand that you still hold tight to something so big that it has gnawed the back of your brain since you first qualified for a driver's licence, or played your last football game, or that day, when you were so, so young, and lost someone very, very dear.  We all remember when it happened...

If you are not filled up with this... whatever it is... just enjoy your time here and think no more about the smiling, happy people around you, other than how sincerely nice they are.  Buy something, or not.  Success on THE MOUNTAIN is not measured in dollars made, only in friends met, relationships established, and a balance that settles over the heart, pushing back the stress of the world below.  Sure, we make a few dollars, mostly enough so we can keep coming back, every first Monday of the Month.

Laurie Z is one of those smiling people.  She brought 'TWIRL' to THE MOUNTAIN.   And, Laurie's vision, in the form of Ms. Lilly's Closet has now formed into reality, sifted carefully from the heart of her own inner child.  She knew it was something too big to hold inside.  Now the women on this hill are TWIRLING, because they felt that girlish feeling, from a time when they ran barefooted through a field, or sparked to the first cute boy they every saw, or went off to college on Daddy's money... Name it, it is your memory.  We already know you own one; it itches to get out, a constant reminder that life has gone very far away from such dreams and childish wishes--dang-it-all.

Amid the shoot outs and the artisans and special food found here, Laurie's vision collects in this little corner of 'stage one' on THE MOUNTAIN.  Here, they dance in the streets, crowd's look on as Laurie, and (jumping into the pool, much to my own surprise) my own little Feathermaye, climb ladders for that extra-special shot--she usually won't do such a thing--firing off frames with her camera, the smile covering her pretty face is like the sun blinding my eyes; it's all I can see.  She's Twirling...

AS I WRITE THESE WORDS, Laurie is directing a group of women from Dallas who've all come to remember their Sorority days in College.  They are no longer 40-something executives, in this moment they are wild, free, ready to go into Ms. Lilly's closet (famous for always keeping special clothes for any little girl to come play dress-up).  There they find the characters they want to be for just a little bit, a moment of memory that leaves them seeing memory motes; they bat them away like gnats as they drive back to the city, where the real world sucks away such dreamy feelings.  But, for a while at least, and for a while after, they are carrying their own TWIRL, and they will come back again to TWIRL with others, because Laurie's vision, her own TWIRL, is all about giving it to everyone else.

Will she make her fortune on this hill?  Does TWIRL hold her key to the future?  Laurie could care less.  She already knows.  If she gives, the rest is already taken care of.  Things like TWIRL are meant to have a place where anyone can go and find it.  Wives TWIRL in the streets, husband watch and grin, unable to wipe away the fact that they too, are TWIRLING around all those old feelings, sparking again to the girl they once knew and perhaps, have been missing for a long, long time.  That's what TWIRL has to offer.  It's right here, on THIS MOUNTAIN, waiting for you.

OF course Sugar Britches is a business too.  Such things are taken as simply as possible, mostly because it allows Laurie's group to talk with you, to identify your TWIRL, or to encourage your own wishes to find something up here that calls to your own dreams.  It's okay to TWIRL here, everyone understands.
There are several Photo Packages to choose from with a minimal sitting fee up front (you'll see all that as you walk up).  Laurie knows you'll want to take a little TWIRL back home.  She won't care which, she just hopes you take your TWIRL out there and share it, pointing others back to where you found it... Again.

Me too!
We also TWIRL with music, and authors (yep, me too!) reading or talking about their work; painters of all types sharing ideas, finding kindred souls that they've needed to be near, if only to still the normal loneliness most of us feel as artists--no one else understands, do they?  Pappy, and other fine sculptors, hammer and chisel away, or spark arcs off of the metal they are forming, molding clay for the final details of a monumental statue, working for donations to pay for the brass to pour into the mold the clay will form.  Art is happening here, and commerce.

The town below is filled with thousands of bargain hunters and vendors with things found everywhere and brought back to the oldest Flea Market in the US.  This was once the frontier stop for trappers and traders to come and meet, back when a homestead was miles from the nearest neighbor.  Remaining sane in those days meant packing up a few things and going to the camp meeting to swap and trade.  Often, trades are made without any cash at all.  Remarkable to find exactly what you had no idea you were looking for, in the hands of someone who has no idea why they found it, much less bought it, but have brought it here, none-the-less.

Y'all need to plan for your next "First Monday of The Month"!

We've got lots more pix and stories about this place coming!

Residents of 'Cognito', Texas respond in favor of S Bond Herndon's new Tell-All Novel "A Week in Agony...Texas"

Excerpt from this week's "COGNITO EXPOSED' newsletter [circulation 14] , Oleandra Onyx-Bankhead-Overcash reporting...

The Cuts of Agony, near Jesus' hide-out
Once again, the criminal elements of our sister town have become malignant, a cancer that has torn the very heart out of my own home town... Agony.

We all (all sixteen of us) have ties to our folks over there, and we all left for pretty much the same reason: lack of understanding and the insanity that permeates the area, affecting all of its residents; and, as we can all attest, making them all... Just a little bit... mad, at times.

This close to "The Big Nothing" is no place to lose one's sanity.

Ladies, we must unite, and help put a stop to the current lunacy our foolish cousins have embarked upon:

Sorry, y'all, we couldn't find a picture of ALL the Mulligans
since they seldom assemble as one...until now...
"We gonna go find that Writer-Feller, and his Injun wife, and make 'em take it back..." Sisters, is that not cousin Flat-Top Mulligan, to a Tee?

More of the nefariousness Mulligans
Now, we all met and spoke with Mr. Herndon, and his wonderful wife, who is not really a Native American. Her folks were from way off, up in Michigan.  That we all have come to know well.  In my own humble opinion, I think Feathermaye is really the driving force behind her wordsmith Husband.  I kept a close, strong eye on her when they were here, in Cognito.  That girl has her husband's back, and the man just dotes on her... Made more than one of us remember the days when men--sorry, sisters, I digress.

Dwayne Dobbs, current Mayor of
Agony
As for the so-called newspaper, over there; they might as well just be an old ad-rag, for all the ink they waste.  Cousin Jackson Tuck is not much of a writer (or an editor, for goodness sake). And, least I forget to cast more blame over this embarrassing, potentially dangerous situation with Mr. & Mrs. Herndon, the current mayor of Agony (It's Dwayne Dobbs turn now...) remains as powerless, as he is un-influential.

So, anyhow, y'all, as our little incorporated spot of land has been      chartered, and as the editor and chief of this newsletter, and with full agreement from our current Mayor, Post Master, and Marshall Miss Nana Tuck, I hereby state, emphatically, that Mr. Herndon and his wife are fine people, and our crazy cousins are but a load of good-for-nothing, ne'er-do-wells.

That's as lady-like as I can say it. Besides, I'm the one, at the advise of my wonderful Aunts, that told Mr. Herndon and Feathermaye to just go own and write the story.  I was right dab in the middle of it, after all, even if it was over forty years ago.

I was there when they hung Jesus!  I was sitting right up in the Rodeo stands when he came back to us, three days later.  After that...things were different. I looked at  the town of Agony with new eyes, as the shingles of the particular brand of insanity that will forever, in my humble opinion, ruin the hopes of everybody there; bless their poor souls.

I remain your humble reporter/editor, Oleandra Onyx-Bankhead-Overcash.

Blogger's Note: I should point out that Oleandra has remained a devoted friend to Yours Truly and Feathermaye.  She sends text messages, every time the Mulligans get up to something.  For now, we know those boys--and I don't mean to downplay them, at all, they are a nasty bunch of hombres--are talking a lot of stuff about finding out where THE MOUNTAIN is, but...none of them know how to get on line!  Ha!  Besides, I've got fine protection around Feathermaye, Starbuck the glittery dog of wonder, and Yours Truely.  If there's gun-play, I'll be the guy with extras up on the roof-tops, with beads drawn on the Mulligan's scabby heads.

Excuse me for now, folks, I hear gun fire in the distance...(live shoot-outs here every hour!)  Y'all c'mon and get here!

More to come...

Remember to share us, on Facebook, and as Feathermaye is so fond of saying: "Be sweet, and give this one a quick Tweet."

People of THE MOUNTAIN: First impressions from the face of the hill...

The Savannah Winery & Bistro, facing Hwy 64 in Canton, Tx. was among the visionary first on THE MOUNTAIN
Savannah Winery & Bistro: THE BEST FRENCH DIP EVER!
(we do mean of all time here)

I have eaten the classic French-Dip sandwich all over this great nation.  Today, I found the one that GOD likes to eat.  I can't say as I can blame him...

Buffalo Girls Hotel, also at base of THE MOUNTAIN
If you're headed for Canton this weekend, hurry, before Chef Todd gets called to his maker promoted to full-time status as the Holy Sous Chef, the guy who doesn't shave cheap beef so thin you wouldn't know it's tough.  No, Ole Todd uses Prime Rib, caramelized onion, cheese and fuses it within the confines of a toasty bun.  To top that, (Hang on, God's drooling overhead it's drizzling a little and I need to move my lawn chair back under the porch) Todd doesn't open a can of beef broth and call it 'Au Jus'.  No, sir, this concoction is akin to Stuff Served on Mount Olympus the finest of renderings, so complimentary of the beef within it left me speechless, chewing, savoring while making noises that ultimately ended up embarrassing The Fabulous Feathermaye.
Fine dining with casual flare and one hell of a wine list!

Pappy and Flo are the owners of The Savannah.  This is the landmark we were guided to by Mrs. Z: "Turn in by the winery.  It's behind that."  Of course we had to run down the hill and try the place out.  Then, we found out some very remarkable things about Pappy.  Feathermaye will be telling you about this world class sculptor, and the project he is working on.  I'll just say, he made an impression on us, and we had only spoken with Flo, his wife.

By now, I sure do hope you've read-up on Canton, Tx.  We're dying to turn you all onto the tastes, the atmosphere and the incredible variety of everything we've stumbled across on our latest travels.   We're piling up copy here, talking with these unique people who enjoy a rare sense of freedom and community.   Be sure to follow us both here on the Blog, as well as Facebook for the latest post on our Off to Look for America Tour series.  We'll have regular photo blogs, as well as video (I'm about to go Cowboy up in here) as we open up the secrets of THE MOUNTAIN, as well as the rest of what Canton rolls out for you for four days a month, just before the first Monday.

In parting, and just in case you missed seeing this quote on Feathermaye's page, I'm including these lyrics that she and I have come to know well, embrace tightly, and reflect in, as we keep our eyes on the coming horizon...

There's a million things, I will say to you my friends.
When I can, but till then.

It's goodbye to the ones we left.
There's a place on my  pillow should you need to rest.

And a sense of belonging, and that never ends.
But, I'll always be hoping that one day I'll see you again...

If you want to know adventure in today's America, especially in today's economy, then keep following the Herndons as they continue to report their progress; from THE MOUNTAIN, to the Prairie Yacht, and to a town, or campground, near you.

Controversy continues over Tell-All book about small town life in West Texas...

Agony, Texas
Excerpt from today's Agonizing Truth (circulation 312)

Agony, Texas: Commercial District
More citizens of the small, insignificant town of Agony, Texas are outraged by S Bond Herndon's new 'Tell-All' book: "A Week in Agony...Texas" Perched as it is, at the end of the only highway in or out, and placed, "Unfortunately" (according to S Bond Herndon) in the "...burning hemorrhoid" of the Pecos Valley Basin, "smack dab in the middle of nowhere, and only slightly better than the oozing scab of its sister town: Cognito, Texas--just the other side of the Big Nothing... " (again, according to Herndon) are but a few of the statements with which Agonites take issue.

Farnsbee says: "I never wanted the job ..."
Current Mayoral Appointee Cletus Farnsbee  (Herndon's book points out how the town has to appoint, rather than elect, a mayor, since "...no one with any sense would want the job...") made the only official response to the uproar in town: "Ah...that feller sorta snuck in here and used some type of charm on folks around these parts.  Everybody just felt like they could talk to him, know what I mean...?"

Herndon's book, to be published by Truesource  Publishing's Imagine House imprint.  The release date for Herndon's latest novel has not been set.

Herndon also wrote the Galveston Ghostly thriller: Tormenta, which is available through his publisher.  S. Bond Herndon is rumored to be signing books "On The Mountain" in Canton, Tx., during Market Days.  "Agonites are not welcome..." Herndon says not to worry about the crazed lunatics from the small town ever being able to find their way to Canton.  "We have a posse, and a sheriff up here ON THE MOUNTAIN."  The author-storyteller said. "I think those boys can handle the Mulligans..."

"THE MULLIGANS are the notorious family of thugs and misfits that Herndon was instrumental in exposing to various interested Law Enforcement agencies.  Mulligan Salvage, the family company moniker, was revealed to be a chop-shop, marijuana processing plant, as well as other nefarious activities that are forcing the procurement of a Grand Jury to review, and perhaps bring indictments to the rest of the Mulligan Boys, some twenty-eight all totaled, although, as Herndon points out: "It's hard to keep 'em all straight as far as which one is who."
