Tormenta: synopsis

For those who've read 'Tormenta', Please take a moment to read and comment on the synopsis. If you have not read it, does this make you wish you could?

As the last member of his family's bloodline, ABLE DAWES holds the key to breaking a century's-old curse that binds his ancestors, Galveston Island, and the ghosts of 8000 LOST SOULS. But Able is just a kid, addicted to heroin and flying solo on the most important night of his life.

Able isn't aware of his dark legacy. He's never heard of DONOVAN DAWES, the man who invited evil to the island and nurtured its presence. Or of CHRISTOPHER DAWES, Donovan's only son, born during the violence of the 1900 Hurricane that decimated Galveston Island, Texas and set the curse in motion.

Able believes he is an orphan, discarded. He only took the name of Dawes to legitimize himself in some way. He'd idolized BEAU DAWES, born in the wake of Christopher's death. Beau taught Able survival skills, and Able decided that Beau's was as good a name as any. He knew he always had a place to land at Beau's. And although he'd always wished it was so, he had no idea that Beau was, in fact, his father.

Beau was the first of the Dawes men to try to break the curse; by sacrificing his son to the foster care system, he hoped to remove the curse's claim on the boy. As fate would have it, Able always found his way back to the Dawes' House.

As hurricane Rita bears down upon the Texas coast, Able is wandering the evacuated island. A strange fog has descended, clouding both the landscape around him, and his mind. There are things moving in the fog and his grip on reality is getting greasier.

He convinces himself that he is searching for the heroin fix that will get him and LOLA through the storm, but his mission on this fated night is much, much more: He must change the course of a major hurricane, thereby changing the course of the future of Galveston. Aided only by the ghost of an old Blues Man, Able is first going to have to visit the past and overcome the sins of his fathers.
