Art Blog: What to do when your IPR is taken by someone in China?

We have a facebook friend who is rather influential to The Fabulous Feathermaye:

Her name is Lisa J. Lehmann and her small, well-written about company is known as: Studio Jewel

Lisa just joined the ranks of victims of Intellectual Property Theft.  A seller out of China, listed on a popular site, just reached out, over the WWW and grabbed all of Lisa's advertising and designs of a particular piece that she not only conceptualized, designed, and executed, but also promoted (with pictures of her OWN DAUGHTER).

To see her hard work simply taken and used, seemingly with complete impunity, by anyone, well...disheartening is not even close.  The e-commerce giant that hosts this thief was raved about recently by the likes of CNBC.

You can help, if you will...

If you go to this site Lisa will give you the details through which you can also register your voice in protest.

Hi Mr. Herndon,

I cam across this post and as a representative for Alibaba.com in the U.S., I’d like to express on behalf of the company how sorry we are that photos of Lisa’s designs were stolen by one of the Chinese companies using our international trading website. However, it’s important to understand that Alibaba.com is not an e-tailer and does not sell products. The website is an open marketplace that matches buyers and sellers all over the world. We take intellectual property rights (IPR) very seriously, as do the vast majority of our 23.8 million registered buyers and sellers.

But some do not, and in these cases Alibaba.com has strict anti-piracy policies in place to deal with violators—in most cases we throw companies off the website if we determine, after an examination of evidence provided by the parties involved, that there has been infringement. We have reached out to Lisa and offered our assistance to resolve the matter swiftly and fairly. We encourage others who are using the Internet for commerce to learn more about how they can protect their IPR online by reading this story: http://ow.ly/80ELS. Also, Alibaba users can report intellectual property violations at http://ow.ly/811bL.

Again, we are very sorry that this happened and we're here to help. Please don't hestitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Best,
Candice
